Established to administer the Dame Barbara Rae CBE RA archive of paintings and prints.

Established in 2013, the Provost James Rae Trust manages the archive of paintings and prints by Dame Barbara Rae CBE RA. Named in tribute to the artist’s father, former Provost of Crieff, Perthshire, where Rae grew up.

A registered Scottish charity, the Trust is dedicated to supporting mature artists. Raising funds to help further the practice of late-career and older artists whose creative ventures and travels might otherwise not be possible. Grants are awarded at the discretion of the Trustees and are available to artists who were born, educated, and currently reside in Scotland.

The Trust also sponsors a residency at the Ballinglen Arts Foundation in County Mayo, Ireland. Renowned for its dramatic landscape and outstanding facilities, Ballinglen has been a source of inspiration for Rae since her first visit in 2002. She has returned almost annually since, painting the evolving landscape and finding in Ballycastle both artistic refuge and a vibrant close knit community.

The Trust actively curates exhibitions and facilitates loans from the archive, promoting continued engagement with Rae’s work.

You are able to purchase directly from the archive which holds key artworks and prints from Rae’s career.

We also have a definitive collection of catalogues and books available to purchase.
